In Memory of The Rt. Rev. Joe Goodwin Burnett

The Mississippi Conference on Church Music and Liturgy joins the wider church in mourning the death of The Rt. Rev. Joe Goodwin Burnett, who died on November 14, 2025. We give thanks for his life, his faithful ministry, and his deep commitment to the worship life of The Episcopal Church.

A native of Mississippi, Bishop Burnett began his ordained ministry here, serving congregations across the Diocese of Mississippi for 25 years. His passion for the church's sacred work extended beyond the pulpit; he was a champion for music and liturgy, serving faithfully as the chaplain for this Conference and on the executive board of the Association of Diocesan Music and Liturgy Commissions.

We remember him as a kind-hearted pastor, a tireless shepherd, and a friend to all who care about the beauty and depth of our worship. His legacy of liturgical renewal and his love for the church’s song will continue to inspire us.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
